About the coffee | In southern Ethiopia, within the landscapes of Gediyo, the village of Konga Wete is home to over 1890 farmers who cultivate coffee in their own backyards. The harvest is brought to the Amederaro Konga washing station, situated alongside the Toracho River, approximately 6 km away from Yirgacheffe town.
Established in 2018, the station spans 2.5 hectares and employs various processing methods, providing 190 shaded drying beds as well as 10 fermentation tanks for experimental processing.
This washed lot is a mix of the 74110, 74112 and 74165 varieties, developed at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center. Harvesting involves meticulous handpicking to select only ripe cherries. Following de-pulping, the coffee beans undergo fermentation in water tanks for up to 72 hours.
Subsequent steps include washing, drying in tanks for 12 hours and transferring to African beds for 8 to 10 days until it reaches 12% moisture. Delegated supervisors oversee operations to ensure quality throughout the process.
The washing station has been honoured with the 2019 African Fine Coffees Association’s Taste of Harvest award and has also made significant investments in social initiatives, including the construction of schools and the provision of educational materials for children in the local community.
This coffee is sourced from our partner, Primrose Coffee, a vertically integrated company with 20 years of experience in Ethiopian green coffee exports and a proud member of the Ethiopian Chapter of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance.
